Choosing What the Groom Should Wear

Tradition often leads us to believe that the bride is the one with the big decisions to make regarding her wedding attire. But of course the groom also has to make sure he chooses the right outfit for the big day.

In many cases a suit will be ideal, but of course this isn’t going to be a normal suit. The traditional outfit is a morning suit, which consists of a smart pair of trousers and a waistcoat over a shirt. This is topped off by a tailcoat, which is essentially a smart jacket with long tails instead of being cut off at its usual length.

A morning suit is certainly the thing to go for if you want a traditional wedding, or simply something very smart to wear. But there are other options as well, and indeed you might want to consider the time of year you are getting married at too. Indeed the location of your wedding will also come into play – particularly if you are getting married abroad.

Let’s say for example that you have chosen an exotic destination to get married in. You certainly won’t be comfortable wearing a morning suit if your wedding ceremony is going to be taking place on a beach in the Seychelles. In this case you need to decide how casual or formal you want to look. If you want to keep things fairly formal you can wear a suit that is lighter in both colour and design. If you want to do away with the jacket you could opt for a light shirt and trousers with a waistcoat instead.

Even if you want to be casual you can make sure you look as smart as possible. In this case a smart linen pair of trousers and matching shirt will work well. Linen helps you to stay cool in the hottest of conditions, and the last thing you want is to be passing out when you are saying your vows!

Another form of wedding attire that is becoming more popular with the groom is to wear a kilt. And you don’t need to be Scottish either. There are many different kinds of tartan available so you have a nice choice of colours to wear too. Think about whether or not you have any kind of colour scheme as this might influence what you pick. The key thing to remember is to be smart and take care over your appearance, because you can be sure your bride will.

The other thing you need to think about is whether you should buy or hire your outfit. This will depend largely on whether or not you want to keep it afterwards and also what your budget is. The good news is that everything can be hired if you want to go down that route, including kilts and other Highland clothing.

In the end what really matters is how you look on your big day. If you look good and you feel comfortable, you have achieved what you set out to achieve.
