Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

Your wedding photographer has a very important job to do on the day of your wedding. They will take the pictures that will find a place in your wedding album and provide wonderful memories of one of the best days of your life.

This should help you get over the nerves of having to ask them some crucial questions that will help you choose the right photographer for the job.

First of all it helps to know what you want to have in the way of wedding photos. Do you have a particular style in mind or would you rather take some guidance from a professional photographer ?

If it is the latter you should talk to several to see whose style you like the most. The last thing you want is to hire a photographer and then find out on the day that they don’t take the kinds of pictures you really want. Always discuss everything up front and make sure they fully understand what you want to have. This should reduce the chances of any misunderstandings.

Ask them what type of pictures they take as well. Do they always take them in colour or are they happy to work in black and white too? Would they be able to take a mix of both?

Another good question is whether the photographer you have found is actually used to doing weddings. Not all of them are. Some specialise in school pictures; others opt for scenery and still more do portraits. You must be sure they have experience in wedding photography otherwise even a professional can get it wrong.

You should also ask to see samples of their work from previous weddings they have attended. This will enable you to see whether they tend to stick to a single style of photography or whether they can accommodate different needs for different couples. There is nothing wrong with them focusing on a single style – providing that is the exact style you want. If it isn’t then you know you will need to take your search elsewhere.

But perhaps the biggest question of all is not one you would want to ask the photographer. It’s this – do you get on with them and find them easy to work with?

If the answer is no then you need to continue your search. If it is yes then you know you have found someone with whom you can work on the day to get all the pictures you want in your wedding album.

Be sure to ask about prices as well. It can be a bit embarrassing talking about the money but it is a vital part of the whole deal. You need to know what is included and what constitutes an ‘extra’. For example how many photos can you expect and what is the charge for each additional one?

In the end the more questions you ask beforehand the more comfortable you will be with the service you finally end up choosing.
