For the majority of people the only possible choice is gold. But if you are getting married soon don’t just pick gold because that is the most popular choice. You will be wearing this ring for a long time so it pays to think carefully about what you would really like to have. For example it could be that gold really doesn’t suit you. Some women never wear gold jewellery because the colour doesn’t fit with their own skin tone and what they like to wear. They might wear silver a lot instead, and you can of course buy silver wedding rings that are just as nice as gold ones. They will be cheaper too so if your wedding is being organised on a tight budget you might want to bear this in mind. Many people though will opt for something more expensive. Gold brings with it the option of having nine, eighteen or twenty two carat gold wedding bands. Some can be softer than others though so if you have a manual job you will want to avoid these as they can be damaged more easily. If you like the colour that silver gives you but you want to opt for something more expensive, think about titanium or platinum instead. Titanium is becoming increasingly popular as a viable alternative to silver, and it is very hard wearing indeed. Platinum is more expensive and it may be outside of some people’s budgets. But there is no doubt that it provides a stunning material to make a wedding ring out of. In virtually every case you can either buy a wedding ring from your chosen metal off the shelf or you can have one especially made for you. Expect the price to go up if you opt for the latter, although it depends on what metal you choose as to how expensive it will be. For example two uniquely designed rings for you and your partner which are made from platinum will be the most expensive way to go. In contrast two silver wedding bands bought from a jeweller will be the cheapest. As you can see the amount of money you have available to spend on your wedding rings could help make the decision of which metal to choose for you. If you stick to a small budget you can forget the idea of platinum. But if the sky is the limit you can get whatever you want. There is no right or wrong choice when it comes to choosing the metal for your wedding ring. The most important thing is whether you both like the metal or not. Traditionally both rings should be made of the same metal so that they match in some way. Finally, the other thing to remember is to make sure that your ring will be able to withstand all the things you do during the average day. If you choose a softer metal make sure you take your wedding ring off and keep it safe if need be. | |
